CAMP REQUIREMENTS

Squad STX is a high‑adventure, military‑themed summer camp for boys who want to push their limits, build grit, and develop real leadership. We are NOT a boot camp. Campers must want to be here and be ready for the challenge.

Readiness Checklist

I understand this is NOT a boot camp for troubled teens.

I’m ready for adventure and willing to push myself.

I submitted the required consent form.

I will complete the required heat training before camp.

Who This Camp is For

Squad STX is a voluntary, high‑intensity outdoor adventure camp for boys who want to be challenged and are ready to work as part of a team. We are NOT a disciplinary program. Squad STX is built for boys who:

  • Want a tough, hands‑on outdoor experience

  • Are excited about hiking, field skills, and teamwork

  • Can follow instructions and stay motivated

  • Are willing to be outdoors 24/7

  • Preparing for future ROTC (optional)

No Experience Required

You don’t need JROTC, scouting, or camping experience to succeed here. Some boys attend to prepare for future ROTC goals, but we teach every skill from the ground up. We only ask that you arrive:

Ready to Try

Every camper contributes. Be ready to push yourself and support your squad.

Ready for the Outdoors

We are 100% outdoors. You will get dirty, sweaty, and tired, but you’ll love every minute of it.

Ready to Grow

We expect campers to arrive with an open mind and a "can-do" attitude, rain or shine.

Mandatory Pre-Camp Heat Training 🌡️

Texas heat is our biggest risk. Campers hike 4–8 miles a day and sleep outdoors or under tarps, so conditioning is essential. All campers (and dads attending Father/Son Camp) must complete Heat Training before camp to prevent heat exhaustion and arrive mission‑ready.

Campers must complete a minimum of four one‑hour hikes in the two weeks before camp (two per week). We also strongly encourage avoiding soda and sweets prior to camp.

The first time you hike in your boots and backpack should not be the first day of camp.

Steps of Heat Training

1. Start Light

Begin with a one‑hour hike during the heat of the day. Wear your camp boots to start breaking them in.

2. Increase Weight

Start with a light backpack and add weight a little each time to build comfort and stamina.

3. Full Load

In the week before camp, complete two peak‑heat hikes wearing boots, field gear, and full pack weight.

Why It Matters

  • Reduces risk of heat exhaustion

  • Helps campers enjoy the program

  • Prepares them for long hikes and field exercises

  • Builds confidence before arrival
